AWD Lock Differential

Thank you to all that replied about my request for feedback on the ’08 Santa
Fe Limited AWD.  It sure is a nice SUV.

I had a quick question.  Could someone please explain the details of how
Hyundai’s AWD works, and what the ‘AWD Lock’ button on the leftside of the
dash does when engaged….?

Thanks again!

New Hyundai i10 makes initial impression to justify small car's big billing

The letter "i" has great significance in the motoring world. It first came to prominence as a boot-lid indicator that the engine of the car in front had fuel injection. A couple of decades ago, company reps were said to be particularly proud of this bit of oneupman-ship because some considered that it also stood for "important".

Sonata Coolant Change

Anyone know what the proper procedure for doing a coolant change on a 2006
Sonata is? "Draining" the coolant as instructed in the manual results in
about 2 1/2 quarts making it out of the system – basically, the radiator,
and the hoses. The rest of the coolant – about 6 quarts – the lower part of
the engine, and heater core, etc. Is there a drain plug on the engine
somewhere to really do the job that’s not mentioned?

Re: Attn: Hyundaitech – 2000 Sonata v6 timing belt

Depending on mileage, you might also consider the water pump, but I see
that more as a matter of personal preference.

While it’s apart, check the timing belt pulleys to be sure they turn
smoothly.  And don’t forget the obvious checking of the drive belt and
drive belt tensioner.

Auto Headlights

I have posted before about the fact that my 07 Sonata headlights do not come
on early enough when it gets dark. I will often turn them on myself when I
think about it.  The other day a local Smokey followed me into a shopping
center parking lot to tell me that I should turn my headlights on. He was
polite but I told him that I had auto headlights and that they will
eventually come on. He said I should get them fixed, I thanked him and he
drove off. I think that I recall HyundaiTech saying that they are not
adjustable.  I am seriously considering putting some black tape over the
sensor to see if it helps make them turn on sooner.  Has anyone else had
this problem and what if anything did you do?

2002 Santa Fe fault code

I have a 2002 Santa Fe, with a 2.7 V6.  I just noticed a check engine light
(it’s the wife’s car), and when I checked the code, it is a 0449.  I checked
my shop manual, and part of the troubleshooting is to check the CCV.  I
cannot find the definition for the CCV.  I also found the fuel cap not quite
on tight enough.  Will this cause the fault code?

Thank you!

Re: attn Hyundaitech: Change Spark Plugs on 02 Sonata GLS

The plugs are located in the holes in the center of the valve cover.  If
you have a four cylinder, this is a simple job.  If you have a V6, it’ll
require removing the intake plenum.

I like NGK and Denso.  Champion, not so much.

ECM 2.4L 2002 Santa Fe

I have a computer that will not give codes. The eng is hard to start and
when started runs real bad and will not get above 2000 RPM if you try to
go past this RPM the eng dies. The check eng light will come on when you
turn the switch on and cycle off like normal.I have checked the
cam, crank, map and mass and all seem to be ok also the fuel pressure is
ok.I have tried to make the ECM read some known faults by going through 3
or 4 crank cycles and it will not show the faults. Is this a good sign of a
bad ECM?I also need to know would a new ECM need a key flash. Thanks

2004 Sonata Parking Lights – Mind of Their Own

Hey All:

I thought I had seen something similar to my problem posted quite a while
ago, but a cursory peek into the archives didn’t turn up a thread.  Maybe it
was in one of the other auto groups I hang out in…

Anyway, last night my wife’s car decided to turn on the parking lights all
by itself, in the garage.  I know for certain that they were not on earlier,
as I had been out in the garage several times throughout the night.  I
walked out through the garage at one point and discovered them on.  I
checked inside the car to see if the keys were in the ignition, and they
were not – not even in the car.  She keeps the headlight switch in the ON
position for normal everyday driving, so it is essential to remove the keys
from the ignition, or the complete headlight system will remain on when you
shut off the car.  I turned the headlights to the OFF position, and the
parking lights went out.

The one notable consideration is that this car does have an aftermarket
remote starter system installed in it.  I’m going to be checking with the
installer of the system today, to see if there could be an implication
there, but at the same time I thought I’d throw it up here for comment as
well.

As well, I’ll be searching the wiring diagrams later as I have time, but if
anyone has encountered this already, I’d appreciate the heads-up.

Thanks,

-Mike-
