Accent 2001 Brake Rotors warp

2001 Accent: As soon as I replaced the factory brake pads with
semi-metallic pads, the rotors warp after about 7500 miles of driving.
Apparently excess heat is generated with the semi-metallics. Has
anyone experienced this? Solutions? Anyone try Brembo rotors?

roof racks and limits

does anyone have any experience with THULE racks on a santa fe? I am
looking to get either a hard box, or soft roof bag for my 2004 santa fe
(with factory cross rails), but the limit is only 75 pounds. My dilemna
is that the hard box weighs 30 pounds only allowing me to add 45 pounds
of cargo. OR, i could get a soft roof bag, which lets me add more
weight, but, the soft bags sit directly on the roof, and i don’t even
know what the limits of the roof itself is (not can anyone at hyundai
tell me the roof limit).  Does anyone have experiance with using either
soft or hard roof boxes with their rack, and if so, do you have a
recommendation. I’m only looking to store luggage for a weekend
getaway, we are not storing gear, etc…

Thanks

1998 elantra front end vibration

Anybody who knows about auto repair should probably know this, but I do
not.

I have a 1998 elantra. Over the course of a few days the car developed a
progressively worsevibration in the left front wheel. It is a high
frequency vibration, and
makes a noise like a fast revving motorcycle.

It occurs anywhere higher than 15 MPH; at 70MPH speeds, the image in the
rearview mirror is shaking because of the vibration.

The steering wheel itself does not vibrate.

The vibration gets worse when turning the car to the same side (left) and
goes away when turning to the (right). So I like a long road curving to
the right.

I just bought two new front brakes, but the vibration persists.

I’m thinking bearings or the automatic tranny. Anyone have any other
ideas?

Cold Start and Shifting and Idle Problems

Hi

I’ve got a 2001 Accent GS, and it’s having 3 problems.

1) Cold Start – On a cold start, the engine will chug / putter until i give
it some gas to rev the engine, then all is good.  If i don’t give it any gas,
it’ll stall out.    Once it’s been started once, this problem is gone.

2) Shifting – When comming to a stop, the trans. will quickly shift up, then
down,  for each gear as i slow down.  Once i’m at a stop, the idle is
slightly higher (about 1100rpm instead of 800-900)

3) Idling – When the car is in neutral, the idle is higher then normal, but
varies.  Again, if i give it some gas, and bring the rpm above 3k and let it
drop back down, it will go back to idling fine.

Now here’s the weird part.  All 3 of these things are completely intermittent.
They all happen at the same time, but the car can go days with no problems,
and some days, it does it all the time.  Generally, all symptoms are present,
or all are gone.  No middle ground.

I took it into a service center, they couldn’t find anything.  They said O2
was fine, fuel in and out was OK.
No fault codes where present.  They couldn’t explain the shifting problem.

This problem started all of a sudden.  We has similar problems when we first
got it (shifting issues), and the O2 sensor was replaced at the dealer, and
it was Ok after that.

I’m lost for what this could be.

Dustin.

2005 Santa Fe -Tipped in the NHTSA Roll Over Test

Just noticed that 2005 Santa Fe has problems in passing the recent
NHTSA Rollover test (Tip).  see "NHTSA 2005 SUV Crash, Rollover Ratings
<http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2005/06/22/133124.html>".

Based on this, ConsumersReports.org has the below for Santa Fe:
"We no longer recommend the Santa Fe because of tip-ups in the
government rollover tests."

Guess that maybe the reason of the sharp drop of Sales of Santa Fe in
the past 2 months?

What is the real world experience in over-steering of Santa Fe? Would
ABS/TCS help?

Wondering has anyone heard/known what was the reaction/follow-up by
Hyundai in this regard?

Re: 2004 Sonata Antenna

It sounds like it’s ratcheting.  Try cleaning the antenna and lubing with
silicon based grease.

vehicle speed sensor/ oygen sensor

Help!  My 99 Elantra will not pass inpsection because:
O2 sensor heater circuit bank 1 Sensor 2
O2 sensor circuit low Voltage bank 1 sensor 2
Vehicle speed sensor "a" range/performance.

What does this mean?  My mechanic replaced the O2 sensor 2 and
repaired an exhaust leak that I had, but the same codes are coming up
and now he says I have to take it to a dealer.  I do not trust the
dealer and have been trying to find the possible cost of the speed
sensor, but it seems no one sells them.

Can anyone help?

Wiper blade refill for Sonata

I had been looking for a wiper blade refill for the drivers side of my 2003
Sonata for a few months.  The book and all computers say it needs a 22 inch
blade, and I know from experience that it must be narrow. . Its impossible
to find a 22 inch narrow refill.  I must have bought and returned a half
dozen in my quest.  Finally the other day I was in Advance Auto and found a
21 inch narrow refill. On the back of the plastic pack was a inch ruler
imprinted and I saw that the blade was really 21 and a half inches long.  So
I decided to see if it would work.  When I put it up to the OEM blade, it
was exactly the same length.  They lie!!  The OEM blade is 21 and half, not
22.  So save yourself a lot of time and trouble and just buy the 21 1/2 inch
refill.
Yes, I know that I could have replaced the entire blade assemble but those
are all bigger and bulkier that I like the looks of.
bill
P.S. I had also earlier found a 21 and half inch refill, but it was not
narrow.
