I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata that I’m very happy with, except for one
thing. Several weeks ago, the driver’s seat started making a creaking
noise when my weight shifts to one side, such as during a turn. The
mechanic at my local dealer (who was very nice by the way) said it was
caused by the leather seat scraping against the plastic that is
between the bottom of the seat and the floor. He put his hand down on
the right-hand side between the shift console and the seat, and the
noise appeared to stop when he tried to duplicate it. So when I got
home, I figured I would put something in this area that might stop the
creaking (like a paper towel), but no matter where I tried, I couldn’t
stop the noise. It only makes the noise if I’m sitting normally, not
when I lean forward, so it appears to be a problem related to the back
of the seat, rather than the bottom. It also seems to be coming from
both sides, depending on which direction I lean. I’ve looked at the
seat as best I can, and I can’t see any spot that would make that
noise that I didn’t try to quiet with the towel. Granted, a paper
towel might not fix the problem, but if I hit the right spot, I would
think it would at least make a difference. So has anyone else had a
creaky seat in any Hyundai, and if so, any idea what it might be or
how to fix it. It’s really driving me nuts. :)
Thanks,
Andrew
